Who’s behind the tools at HURST® Jaws of Life? It’s customer service specialists like Ebony Beyah, the smiling face that greets everyone who walks through the door at the company’s headquarters in Shelby, North Carolina.

With a passion for making a positive impact on people’s lives, Ebony came to HURST from a community nonprofit organization that provided services for at-risk children and adults. The philanthropist, mother and friend has worked in human relations for the past 12 years. Ebony received her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte; when she wasn’t hitting the books, she worked as a file clerk and research assistant, which honed her organizational skills.

This January marks Ebony’s one-year anniversary with HURST, where she supports customer service, sales and marketing.

“It is a high priority for me to ensure our customers and first responders have exactly what they need in the field so they can do their jobs as best as possible,” she said.

She says the highlight of her day is managing The Green Cross program.  Green Cross recognizes first responders’ dedicated efforts to save or free entrapped patients using HURST Jaws of Life tools. Last year, nearly 2,000 men and women earned the honors. It’s Ebony’s responsibility to review nominations and manage the process to recognize those deserving first responders.

“Managing the Green Cross program is one of my favorite things about working at HURST,” Ebony said. “Reading their heroic stories impacts me in a way I can’t explain. It’s emotional and it’s moving. It puts a stronger meaning behind the tools and the work we do here.

When she isn’t keeping things in order from HURST’s headquarters, she’s spending time with her family and friends in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her 4-year-old daughter keeps her on her toes, but when she catches a break, you might find her wearing her alumni hat and cheering on her Charlotte 49ers.

We take a hat off to Ebony, because her work behind the tools, behind the desk and behind Green Cross helps make sure first responders get the service they need and the recognition they deserve. #BehindTheTools
